A lifetime of dedication to art and the love of nature form the foundation of his work. He studied with the masters at the Schuler School of Fine Art developing his classical realistic style. His subjects come from the broad spectrum of wildlife, nature and the environment. He has achieved acclaim in the mediums of sculpture in bronze and wood, oil, and opaque watercolor. His professional accomplishments include public, corporate, museum, and private commissions, and major exhibitions nationally and worldwide. He has done major site design work for government, corporate, and private organizations. His style slides easily from representational to stylized realism, and impressionistic.

Honors include over sixty US National, and World Competitions. Mullican is frequently asked to judge these events, and was a judge for the US National Duck Stamp competition in 2011. He was awarded the Governor’s Citation in Maryland on three occasions from two different governors. He was featured, artist, sculptor or featured wood carver at The Chesapeake Wildlife Art Expo, The Easton Waterfowl Festival, and the Annapolis, MD Wildlife Festival, The Southeastern Wildlife Art Expo, and the Florida Wildlife and Western Art Expo. His work represented the United States at the 1992 World Expo in Genoa, Italy. Ducks Unlimited, Sponsor Artist of the Year, Conservation, and Service Award, Distinguished Service Award, the DU Palette and Chisel Award, and Federal Duck Stamp Judge, are among many organizational honors.
Mullican has served as Board Member and Treasurer of the Maryland State Arts Council, Board Member for the Washington County Arts Council, and the Valley Art Association, (Artists of the Cumberland Valley), and is a member of the National Sculpture Society.
